Subject: Breaking Sweetie and Taffy to saddle!! Author: Mal [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 10:12:31 10/27/02 Sun I walked out to the barn and got out Sweetie. The 2y/o Mahogany Bay Holsteiner Filly was now 17hh. I got her out and tacked her up. I had been working with her from the time she was a weanling. She now loaded easily, stood still while i clipped and bathed her, she didnt rear in the crossties and i had walked her down the road and she wasnt scared. I groomed her and tacked her up in a saddle and bridle. Then i led her to the ring where Aaron was waiting for me. I gave him the reins. I got the mounting block and stepped up onto it. I gently leaned my weight slowly over the saddle. She bucks in surprise and i went head first over the other side. I landed on my shoulder. I cried in surprise as i heard something pop. Aaron came around the other side and asked me if i was alright. I said yes but in my mind i didnt think that i was ok at all. I told Sweetie to be good and i tried that again. This time she stayed still. After a few minutes i swung my leg over the saddle and asked Aaron to walk her around a bit. When we had done one lap i dismounted and gave her a pat on the neck. Then we did the same thing with Taffy. My shoulder hurting the whole time. After we were done we went up to the house and said hi to the kids. Angel had been babysitting Lexi and JC(jacklyn). We sat down and had supper then we went into the living room and me and Aaron watched TV while Angel played with JC and Lexi on the floor. I sat down and leaned my head on Aaron's shoulder and yelped when i moved my shoulder. Aaron jumped in surprise and said,"What's wrong Mal?" "It's my shoulder." "What happened?" "Well when i fell over Sweetie's side i landed on my shoulder and i think i did something to it." "Well lets go up to the hospital ok." "Ok." So we told Angel to watch Lexi and JC and to put Lexi to bed in 20 minutes and that JC had to be in bed by 8:00. She told us she would make sure they were then we left. When we got to the hospital i got taken to the X-Ray room where they x-rayed my shoulder. After i went out and we sat in the waiting room for awhile till they had the results. When the doctor came out she said,"Well Mal i have some bad and good news. The good news is that you have only dislocated your shoulder. The bad news is that you wont be able to ride for a week." I sighed and agreed that i wouldnt ride or do anything that required to much stress. Then they put my arm in a sling and we went home. It was 9:00 when we got home and JC and Lexi were in bed and Angel was sitting on the couch reading. She asked what was wrong and i told her and she said, "OH NO! Are you ok mom?" "Yeah i am alright but i cant ride for a week." She nodded and i told her that she would have to work some of the horses. She agreed and Aaron said that he would exercise some of the other horses to. Then i told them that i was tired and i was going to bed. Angel went back to reading and Aaron went to work on some new songs that he was going to record...........
