Subject: First workout with Chief Author: Susan [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 13:38:22 08/14/02 Wed Susan walked to the paddock and whistled. Chief lifted his elegant head and raced over, kicking up his heels. The colt’s muscles rippled under his glossy coat as he galloped over to her. She smiled and patted his neck. She clipped a lead shank to his halter and led him to the barn. She groomed his glistening bay coat and lifted the all purpose saddle onto his back. He nipped at her playfully as she tightened the girth and then tossed his head with pleasure. She bridled him with a mild loose ring snaffle bit. “You settled right in!” Susan laughed as she strapped on her helmet. Chief whinnied eagerly as Susan led him to the arena. She hooked the lunge line to Chief’s bridle and clucked softly. He walked briskly forward, a bit tense. Susan smiled and walked him around a few times. After 5 minutes, he was much more relaxed and was arching his neck just a bit. “Good boy.” Susan praised quietly. She clucked and Chief moved into a smooth, marching trot. Susan smiled and let him trot two circles, before halting him. She did the same thing the other way and then she swung gently into the saddle. She sat on him for a few minutes, relaxed and in perfect position. Then she squeezed gently and he walked forward. She rode him around the ring twice and then dismounted.
