ARIZONA COWGIRL

Helen pulled into the driveway of GRF and parked the SUV. She laughed as she heard a sharp whinny from the trailer she was pulling. She got out of the car and walked back to let out the horse. She came out of the trailer leading a gorgeous paint filly. Jon, Jess, Alli & Suzie walked out of the barn. Susan was at a week long dressage seminar so she wasn’t around. All the girls gasped and Jon eyed the attractive filly. “She’s a quarter horse isn’t she” He said, knowingly. “Yep! 2y/o QH Filly” Helen replied petting her. “What does she have potential in?” Jon asked eagerly. Helen smiled and said “Dressage, Jumping, Halter & Eventing” Alli and Jess both squealed happily at the thought of another Eventer. Jon’s face fell. He hated to see a QH horses doing anything but western. “Just kidding” Helen said mischievously and added “She wouldn’t make that good of an English horse, but has positively unlimited potential in western. Especially barrel racing & Reining.” Jon’s face lit up like a lamp. While Jess and Alli looked disgruntled and walked off to the lounge. In a flash Jon was examining she filly with great attention. “Her name is Arizona Cowgirl” Helen said. As he examined her hooves She turned her head around and butted him hard in the behind. Jon using his quick reflexes born of barrel racing, turned and popped her on the nose with his hand. Zoe turned her head back looking very sulky and bucked a little. “Apart from the slight temperament problem you have a perfect filly” Jon said, sounding pleased and a little envious. “No” Helen said, a little shiftily “Actually….YOU have the perfect filly”. Jon looked the filly up and down and then looked at Helen. “What will Mom say” Jon said guardedly as he gazed longingly at the filly. “Well….I’ll work it out” Helen replied hastily. Jon smiled wickedly and took Zoe’s lead rope and walked her toward the barn with Helen. “We can start her training tomorrow.
THE NEXT MORNING…..
Helen was standing on the rail next to the outdoor arena yelling pointers at Jon. Who was lunging Zoe and doing very well. When they were done they led her out of the arena. As they came out they saw Susan standing right infront of them. She was home 2 days early from the seminar. “Oh I see your letting Jon help you with your new filly Helen” Susan said, seeing where this was going. She looked pointedly at Jon. Jon immediately pointed at Helen and said “It was her idea”. Susan, standing in her crisp black suit, with her hair in an elegant bun turned to Helen. She looked a bit intimidating with her arms folded, tapping her foot. “HELEN.........”
