i slowly entered memento's stall and while giving him a thorough grooming, i used the opportunity to check him over. He, although a little tense from being couped up all night, was in perfect condition. After getting him ready, i lead him to the outdoor ring. His ears perked up and he was ready to go. I began to lunge him by starting him at a walk in a clockwise direction. He was a little flighty (as most stallions are) and at the beginning he pranced a little and took choppy strides. As he circled me he soon became smoother and rythmic. He, although eager to speed up, obeyed my every command and stayed at an extended walk. As soon as i gave him the command to trot, he took up the opportunity and took nice long strides without even looking like he would disobey me and break into a canter. I turned him around and repeated what i had done with him anticlockwise.

when given the command he gracefully eased into a smooth rocking horse canter and only tossedhis head a few times. It was obvious he was enjoying his workout. I continued his cantering circlesmaking them tighter around me then lre circles further away. I then repeated this in the other direction. I cooled him down by allowing him to trot and walk it out for a while then i brought him in and gave him a pat. i then let him out into the paddock for the afternoon.

After Memento, i returned inside the barn to groom my mare, Crystal, although she wasnot as frisky as Memento, it was easy to tell she wanted to get out and moving. I gave her a quick groom and check over and then lead her outside to the arena. i gave her a quick workout on the lunge line, similar to what i had done with Memento, giving her the opportunity to loosen her muscles. I also encouraged her to work both sides of her body as recently i have noticed she seems to have a stronger leading leg. i will continue to strengthen her left foreleg fo r this reason. After about half an hour i brought her in (after coolin her down) and lead her to the mares paddock where she remained until sunset.
