Susan patted Delilah’s neck and led her to the barn. She groomed the palomino Morgan’s glossy coat and tacked her up. Susan looked at the jumping saddle and smiled. Delilah was a superb jumper and had so much 3 eventing talent. Susan strapped on her helmet and bridled her mare. Then she walked out to the jumping arena. She adjusted her stirrups and and swung into the saddle. Delilah walked lightly forward and relaxed her head. Susan guided her through circles and figure eights at walk as their warm up. Then she squeezed Delilah’s sides gently. The mare shifted into a smooth relaxed trot and came onto the bit, becoming connceted to Susan. Susan lifted her inside rein slightly higher and tapped the mare with her inside leg. Delilah bent smoothly to the right and extended her trot at Susan’s signal. After a bit more work at trot, Susan slid her leg back and nudged Delilah. The elegant Morgan moved swiftly into a relaxed canter and did her courtesy circle. They moved toward the first jump, a 4’ oxer. Delilah tucked up her slender legs and sprang over it. Susan shoved her heels down and urged the mare toward the next 4’3” spread. Delilah and Susan soared over it will ease and headed toward the bounce fence. Susan kneaded her hands up the mare’s neck and squeezed at the foot of the jump. Delilah bounced over the first one and landed lightly, immediately taking off over the next. The Morgan stretched over it and landed delicately. They took the rest of the course easily and then halted at the end. “Good girl!” Susan murmured and patted Delilah’s withers. The Morgan whinnied gently and tossed her head. Susan smiled and squeezed her gently. They took the course again, jumps ranging from 4’ to 4’3”. Susan took Delilah down the trail and popped her over a few logs. The mare was frisky and playful. Susan turned her around and rode her back to the barn. She dismounted and led Delilah to the barn, where she untacked and hosed down the mare. Once she had cleaned her tack, Susan hopped into her SUV and whistled. Eight dogs responded and jumped in the back as she drove to Timeless Farms to talk to Dana.
