SPANISH ELEGANCE "SPAIN"

Helen swung into the synthetic dressage saddle and gathered up the reins. She squeezed gently with her legs and Spain walked forward. The elegant Andalusian gelding moved easily around the ring. After a thorough warm up Helen moved Spain out around the outside of the Dressage arena and pushed him into a working trot. Spain trotted forward and on the bit as they moved around the arena. She trotted him into the arena at A and continued up centerline, halting and saluting at X. Then she continued to guide Spain through the 2nd level test. She asked for collected trot and Spain pranced forward, nicely collected. They continued through the rest of the test and then halted on the rail. �Hey Suzie� Helen called as her daughter crossed the barn yard. �Yeah?� Suzie called back. �Can you turn on the music?�. �Sure�. Suzie walked over and hit the play button on the CD player. Backstreet boy�s song Don�t� Want You Back played across the arena. Helen saluted smartly at X and began to guide Spain through their freestyle routine. They used lots of collected and extended gaits with smooth transitions and almost flawless frame. Helen exaggerated her posting and pushed Spain into an extended trot, the well known song playing around her. They finished the routine as the song ended and Helen gave Spain a big pat on the neck. Then she Dismounted and led him back to the barn.
THE NEXT DAY�
Helen walked into the barn and opened Spain�s stall. She clipped her lead shank onto his halter and led him into the aisle. She groomed his gray coat and lifted the jumping saddle onto his back. Spain shifted under the saddle. He was expecting the usual dressage saddle. She bridled him quickly and then slipped on her helmet. She led him out to the jumping arena and vaulted into the saddle. She warmed up thoroughly. She asked for canter and Spain flowed out a relaxed gait. They cantered a courtesy circle and headed for the first jump, a 2�3 upright. Spain popped over it and continued to the next jump. They jumped an Oxer, another upright, bounce fence, double wide and other jumps. Spain was jumping wonderfully and in good frame. Helen nudged him as the approached the last jump, a triple combination. She lent forward out of the saddle and kneaded her hands up his neck. Spain flew over the first jump and soared over the other 2. They finished the 2�3 course in excellent time. Then Helen took him down a trail and popped him over a few logs. The perky gelding willingly obliged. Back at the barn Helen bathed him and gave him a treat before turning him out.
