Well you can tell your friend that this can be very easy or very hard. First off you really got to tell me what kinda server this is, that you will be connecting to, to connect to the company's network. also what protocals is it running, and how you will be connecting to them(dial up or over the internet.

To find out what protocalls they are running just do a port scan on the server. if you see ports 135, 139 open it has netbeui or also called netbios running. If ports 396 and 524 open then they are running novel. and if you can even port scan them at all then they are running tcp/ip.

all i can tell you now is your gonna need a wingate in most cases and if they have port 139 open this should be very easy.
