Well, when I mean dumb I should say I am talking on the abstract level in purely intellectual matters(and in general, not specifically all of us, but the general american)...we are eaisly placated by the paper our goverment prints and a false sense of prosperity...in addition, I wonder what picture you would see if you broke it down into income distribution...

...If considering facts of per capita...remember the typical european gets at least 1.5-2 times the amount of time of through holiday, sick leave, and paid vaction that americans get...as far as oil prices, there are different taxes and distribution to different ports, most of the oil comes into countries from the middle east at a centralized point...and the opec nations influnce oil prices differently in different countries by controling the supplies at certain ports...the U.S. has many things to fall back on in dealing with opec, thus even when they are going to gouge prices, we will not get the worst results...further more, even when they are pissed at us and direct oil price gouging at us and our allies as they did in the 70's, we did not get the worst of it...
