Nothing says that you have to cut off all your hair to get a drastic change in appearence. I can accpomplish much the same effect with the use of color and new layering. Still I recognize the fact that young impetuous 20 year-olds are just never satisfied with the routine. I'd encourage you if only because you seem so determined... but, ask your self the serious questions:

Why am I inclined to this?

Am I willing to live the new look for a long-long while during a lengthy growing out phase?

Beware if you answer the first question with "I want to freak eveyone out!" The desire to cause a stir and shock or distract those who have known you as a raven tressed long haired gal will soon subside and you will have to live with the style you choose. But, of course this is not a problem if your really doing this for yourself!

I normally encourage changing length in at least two stages for a apprehensive client. If you'd rather throw caution to the wind, just make sure you get good advice and talented stylist. Make sure you have the presence of mind to pull this off mentally as well. A drastic mane-dropping makeover isn't for everyone!

Make sure you have the fortitude
to carry off the plan without tears
and are willing to justify your decision when you see years of hair falling on the cutting room floor!

Make sure that you have a clear idea of what you want and have a picture of you in that style in your mind before commiting to any (irrevocable) commitments in length change. I use and recommend digital imaging for image exploration. It has helped many of my clients be totally sure of their decisions either way.

If you are the type who would just rather get a professional opinion and go for it, my hat is off to you! Women who are totally unafraid to change their looks (or do so routinely) are among some of my most favorite clients!

Definitely email me a picture or scan
and I'll be happy to coach you during the entire process!

Health and happiness,

--Richey
