Mike: I think you misstate Walsh's record and his character. In those games you mentioned I will bet that hardly any of those points were scored in the last 2 minutes of a game unless they were scored by a defensive back returning a pass for a TD or perhaps a running back broke a big run for a TD when the play was just called to run down the clock or unless a backup QB was already in the game and Walsh used the opportunity to get the backup some gametime practice by allowing him to pass the football when if the starter was still in he would just run out the clock.Walsh had too much class to run up the score on another team.Scoring 40 or more points on a team does not mean the score was RUN UP it just means that in the first 3 3/4 quarters that the 49ers played that much better than the other team. Running up the score is when a team is way ahead and it is very late in the game and they COULD just kneel on the ball or at least just call running plays to run out the clock BUT instead the coach is still calling pass plays to try to score more MEANINGLESS points just to rub it in. WALSH NEVER DID THAT!!! If you want that type of coach then Spurrier is your man.Don't get me wrong,I would much rather have Spurrier than Mooch but that is one of the traits that I DON'T like about Spurrier.ANYWAY,the only point I was trying to make about the Skins game was that Mooch made the right decision for that game under those circumstances.Like I said before ,if one or more of our top players (who were sick and in a weakened condition because of the flu)were injured and were lost for the year because Mooch had decided it was more important to run up the score to get even with Spurrier then YOU would have been on this board the next day saying what a stupid coach Mooch was for NOT taking a knee and running out the clock and avoiding those injuries instead of scoring one more meaningless TD in a game that was already long over. And you would have been right to say that!
