Loved it, of course. The tense thing bothered me at first, but that is probably just my 7th grade grammar teacher speaking through me. I love Mick and this IS Mick...dear, exasperating Mick. I agree that the last paragraph is confusing at first, and then it dawned on me what the context of that paragraph really was. I don't have a clue to how to tweak it. Maybe Mick is resting in the car on his way to his new assignment and he takes a snooze and remembers the thrill of his first job....sort of his life flashing before his eyes.

Jaron, too, is ducking her head and trying not to draw attention to the fact that she is also way behind on her fanfic for the fanzine....
