Appearance
Average. Markku is average in everything, from his average height to his average hair (brown) to his average eyes (also brown). There’s a sprinkling of freckles across his nose and cheeks, but many people have that as well and it’s not really anything to brag about. The only thing about Markku that stands out is his foot, which is normally bound up so that Markku doesn’t actually have to look at it. When he does take the bandage off of it, it shows a foot that won’t really be fully functional again. There are angry red lines criss-crossing the top of his foot, while the bottom is so mutilated that it’s gone permanently numb, and Markku never even looks at it. For that reason he carries a small cane, which is cleverly disguised to look like the sort of weapon a 14-year-old child adores. He’s normally dressed in clothing that hints that he’s rather well off, although he tries to disguise it, and his posture and mode of speaking tend to give away that upbringing as well.

Personality
The only real reason that Markku is anywhere near the weyr is that he’s going through his ‘deny all authority’ stage. When he’s not being pushed by his testosterone to reject anything or anyone in power, Markku is generally agreeable, as long as the things he’s being asked to do make sense. Not one to follow directions blindly, he’ll at least stop and consider his assignment before finishing it. It’s also rather surprising that he’s lived this long, considering his constant mood swings that vary anywhere from homicidal rage to a tenderness equaled only by mothers for their newborn young. Also rather territorial, Markku gets more than just a little mad when he sees someone as infringing upon his personal space, another trait that’s likely to go away as he gets older and less prone to jump to conclusions. Despite his age, Markku is rather terrified of girls, which makes sense to someone that knows his history but seems out of place for an adolescent boy.

Skills
Unlike many, Markku can read and do basic math. He used to be able to ride almost anything, but is now mostly confined to walking – er, limping – around. He can dagger fight if necessary, but isn’t very good at it since he can’t dodge or weave like he used to be able to. He also used to be an apprentice bard, although that’s normally hidden. The only weapon that he’s any good with anymore is a sling, which he can use with deadly accuracy.
