One of THE easiest games in general to make a clone out of is Space Invaders, and this one made leaps and bounds over the original of John Dondzila's first Vectrex homebrew of Vector Vaders.

Although the game runs slow, as do the invaders, your shots and the bonus saucer, there's more invaders this time around for you to shoot before they destroy you (so many, you have to score a lofty 5,000 before getting an extra laser base!). The protective bunkers can be destroyed here as well, unlike with the original. The saucer also shoots back at times. Several of the invaders, starting on round 2, will also start splitting when shot (!), there's a couple of secret bonuses to spice up the gameplay even more, and the "S. O. S.!" brief intermission from the original Space Invaders Part II coin-op sequel also pops up as well.

This is poetic justice for the Space Invader fanatic (like me!) and those that wanted more from Vector Vaders. I would have given this an 8 or 9, but the invaders just move too damn slow; even as you're taking a lot of them out, it takes way too long before they quicken their immensly slow pace. Still, this update to THE game that fueled the arcade boom of the late 70s is a very nice homage, what with taking the original gameplay and sprucing it up a bit with bonuse features and all.
