I haven't been during this time of the year but when we were at Asu last year, we were told that there is still swell around during the off-season. Especially since you're staying at Bawa you should get swell.
When we went, we flew first to Medan in Sumatra, then into Guningsitoli in Nias. From there you need to go overland and get a boat from the west side. Good luck - I'd be interested to know how the swell was when you get back.
