Subject: Here's my answers
In reply to: 3Strikes/The answers are there somewhere 's message, "Nope. But I'm not blaming you. The board has become completely cluttered." on 20:23:40 09/20/02 Fri

OK, not sure if these are right, but I'll post them. All of these answers are a combination of what people have already answered correctly and the answers to 3strikes follow up questions:

1. Why did Xander believe he could help Faith? NEW: Three must lead, one must deceive. What will be the result?

Xander thought he could help Faith because he thought he knew her (he had sex with her). Angel thought he could help Faith because he understood her.

Xander's motivators/triggers are:

* His inability to look beyond black and white.
* His lack of self-confidence and direction.
* He considers Buffy, Willow and Giles as his substitute family and will do anything to protect them.
* He worries that he is not good enough for his friends and that he needs to have some sort of concrete role in the group to be worthy of them.

Or as someone else said: Love, Loyalty, and Courage will lead him. Pride or Ignorance will deceive him.

The Result: A very bad decision made by Xander for the best intentions causes harm to him and the one he wants to protect.

2. Are the *Bad* PTBs always Bad ? Are the *Good* PTBs always good ? Though the answer to that has already been clearly stated. But not where you might think. NEW: If you've heard the piping voice, and been blinded by the white, you know what I'm referring to.

They're the same. Wolfram and Hart's higher level partners probably have some connection to the same PTB that guides Angel.

What happened there to prove that The Bad PTB's agenda was greater than simple *evil*?

Angel was given a test of his "evilness." He was willing to snap Lilah's neck to get the Urn. The girl stops him and knowing that he is willing to do it is enough for her and gives him the urn. The little girl is one of an order of powerful beings who are EVIL, but prefer a more methodical and controlled evil. They dislike the chaos Sahjhan's species create with their destruction.

3. Is Lurky the only purveyor of Afterlife in town? How *Tragic* would it be for one character to avail him/herself of the alternative? NEW: Maybe I should have uncapitalized Afterlife. Afterall, it's such a common occurence. Always? Well, maybe not.

Becoming a vampire or the living dead is another form of afterlife and vamping must be pretty common.

Start making connections. Apply symmetry and the Iron Dice. Who? Why? What's the structure?

Eh...no clue. Need to think about that one.

4. Is the map the territory? Is the Playground in your mind's eye the backward symbol or the reality? Think not only metaphor but reality, backward and forward. I'm referring to a real place.

Reality is based on time. Humans are finite and can only see past and present. Demons are eternal but can only see the past and present (if they're not gifted with prophecy of some kind). Gods (PTB, FE, etc.) are eternal, outside of the timeline and can see past, present and future.

The playground represents the past and present. Also Drusilla was in the playground with Angel.

What else does it suggest? What question should we have been asking about Drusilla?

Drusilla as a vampire should only be able to see past and present. But since she's been gifted with prophecy, she can also see the future.

5. Is a Shark evil ? Is an Evil Shark with a *higher* purpose Evil?

Drusilla is the Shark. If she's forced into it by the visions, how could Drusilla, who's been *twisted* into evil by Angelus, be evil.

6. Who sings songs of things to come? Why do they sing of sorrow?

Drusilla, Cordelia, Buffy, Faith Cassie, Spike and one more person not named yet. They see things yet to come, and they're sorrowful in order to prevent that sorrow - or some greater sorrow. so the sorrow - or some greater future sorrow - can be prevented!

7. Let me rephrase old question 7. Upon further reconsideration, it is the weakest part of the speculation. Very possible. But not the only possibility. Upon the road of Fate, the Knight Descendant and the Knight Ascendant were Bound to meet. Asked the Child of Black and gold: "What did you give for Love ?" "Death and Life, my soul," answered the other. Asked the Childe of Gold and black: "What will you give for Love ?" "Life and Death, my soul," answered the other. Which is the greater sacrifice ?

One of the Knights is Spike and and the other is Xander. Both are travelling in opposite directions -- vampire to human, human to vampire. Buffy calls Xander her "White Knight" and Anya calls him "My Knight in armor." Drusilla calls Spike "the wisest and bravest Knight in all the land."

One gains a soul for love. One gives up a soul for love. The white knight sacrifices everything for love. This would define literary Romance.

What would it take for Xander to do it? Under what circumstances ? For whom? When? Why?

Xander would risk his love and life for Buffy, Willow, or Anya if it meant he could save them from death, protect them or die for them.

* This would also fit Angel and Faith. Buffy calls Angel Faith's "brave knight" sarcastically when she sees him holding her in Sanctuary: "When she has her brave knight to protect her?" It's funny that Angel was never called Buffy's "Knight" in any was as far as I can remember.

8. Did you catch the cross-over last year ? If you haven't, don't worry. It was gone in a blast.

A soul was blasted into Spike by Lurky. A demon or part of a demon was blasted into Cordelia by Skip (or a demon like him.

And how can it be a cross-over? Hint: An I'm not talking metaphorical cross-over either.

Spike crossed over to becoming part human. Cordelia crossed over to becoming part demon.

Do you believe in invisible hands?

When Angel fell asleep, Cordelia entered his body. She used his hands to write down the information from her vision on the wall.

I'm not sure if or how this applies to Spike. Were there invisible hands in the cave where Spike's trials were?

9. "Gotta be with movin' forward," says Xander in Restless. "Like a shark with feet..." *Forward*? Where are they both moving forward to? Where are they going? For that matter where are we all going, though by different means?
"Gotta be movin' forward" means "gotta be finding my destiny" or "gotta be looking to the future."

Xander is not in the staying in the playground. He's not looking at his past or his present. He's thinking of his future. He's growing up, becoming an adult and moving on with life.

A person's strictly defined view of life, events, people, things and reactions to them can set them on a good path. Unfortunately, having so closed a view and a path so small can be a hindrance when something drops on the path and they can't figure out how to move it to go around it.

Giles, Buffy and Spike are left. They need to move forward to their future or destiny.

10. If Holtz had been vamped, would he have still hated Angel/Angelus ? Do you think Angelus will have family problems when he comes to Sunnydale ?

Not a clue.

11. This clue is hidden in plain sight. Blatantly, insolently even. But in the Jossverse, applying the concept defined by the clue could result in some seriously eldritch geometry. : ) Unravel the clue and apply the concept upon the fulcrum of Restless, and watch a 7 years tale unfold.

ANSWERED: "Supersymmetry," both mirror and true, short and long. Eldritch geometry, also Lovecraftian geometry. Insanely scary geometry that makes a horrible kind of sense in a non-euclidian way. Think fun house mirrors, or reversed mirrors. One of Lovecraft's favorite theme.

Here's my answer: A person's hatred/dislike of a trait in another person is usually because it's a reflection of a trait within themselves. They are either are ignorant of it or deny it. The reverse is also true. A person's love or admiration of a trait in another person is usually because it's a reflection of a trait they lack or wish they could have. The hatred they usually deny, the love they usually recognize.

What do Xander and Buffy hate the most? They hate evil, soulless things. Do they both become vampires or demons?

12. That Xander would lay down his life for Willow, Anya or Buffy is a given. But would he kill the innocent for one of them?

Buffy killed Angel when she was faced with saving the world. She was able to put the world before herself. Xander's loyalty is to his friends and those he loves and his motivations are driven by them. I think his loyalty and love is so blind that he would.

13. What are these "things you can't protect yourself from?" If you knew them, it would blow your mind. A riddle based on what I hope happens. Too juicy to ignore, but won't necessarily make it to the screen.

We can't protect ourselves from our future, our fate or the choices that we make.

14. Rage, Passion, Hate
What song precipitates their fate?
Rage, Passion, Hate
What Moon to set their course?
Rage, Passion, Hate
What star to find their way?
Rage, Passion, Hate
Will they strife? For whose fate?
Rage, Passion, Hate.

Rage, passion and hate result from anger. Anger that stores itself up for a long time. The opposite of anger is peace, love and understanding. Who's the they?

15. When is Blindness a blessing, and Clarity the worst kind of Blindness? When is a Mistake not a mistake, and why will the difference be a cause for tears?

Blindness is a blessing when you remain in ignorance of the truth staring right in front of you. Clarity is the worst kind of blindness when you REALIZE you have been blind to the truth staring right in front of you.

A mistake is not a mistake when it is done intentionally. A mistake not done intentionally is usually do a person's wrong judgment or misunderstanding. This would be a cause for tears when they REALIZE the mistake is due to their blindness and by that time, it's usually too late to correct.

16. Three of a kind. Third shall he be. But third, third and third? We shall see.

Angel, Spike and maybe Xander.

Would Xander accept to become evil (i.e no soul) knowingly if the Stakes were high enough?

Yes.

Why and for who would he do it?

He would do it for Buffy - to have super strength and fight as an equal by her side. He would want a "super power" like Willow with her magic and Buffy with her Slayerness.

Excellent catch about lurky. What kind of symmetry does it suggest?

Vampires can remove a soul. Lurky can restore it.
