Morb made a comparison of the patience of the cab driver to that of an alligator in the commandments... it's possible the driver like an alligator, might snap at any time. Anyone remember Wayne Lambert? There is a good example of how it can be deadly to fart @ with the driver.
Even though Wayne lost 90 lbs. in jail, even though the cops let him go at first... but hours later arrested him due to Vignette brass pressure, yes even though Wayne died in jail... I, in my most cynical perspective am delighted that the risk of farting around with the cab driver was demonstrated as a very stupid thing to do. Yes, I'm sorry the asshole I.T. Techies got blown away too, but like I've said before if you are going to taunt a rotweiller ya betta know how long the darn chain attached to his neck is.

~LOL~ Not familiar with that one Steve, maybe submit the whole story..I know sometimes my farts are deadly, especially after three straight days of McDonald's, but I'm not to sure about the facts on that one.

The details of Wayne Lambert's difficulties are conflicting at best. The web site created by his atty. is now defunct, so the messages posted there are gone (with the conflicting interpretations... driver's and co-workers). Unless someone can remember his atty's name and he happened to have saved that stuff, it's gone.

Long story short... the beered up passengers, after watching the Tyson fight on payperV at a co. event in Oct. '00, dicked with a cab driver who happened to be under tremendous stress (he reluctantly signed divorce papers earlier in the day) They agreed to go at each other and they (the passengers) ended up dead. Oops! They ridiculed the ethnic background of the woman (Wayne's soon to be ex-wife) who's picture was on Wayne's dashboard. His co-workers wanted Wayne strung up by the balls. (After all, one was shot three times in the back... double OOPS). I heard he did that for fear that if he didn't kill the second guy he might get his gun and kill him (Wayne).
He was jailed after the Pres. of the dead guy's Co. threatened to halt plans for a big office building in Austin if Wayne wasn't arrested.
So they put Wayne in Jail. He lost 90 Lbs. and shortly after being checked out by the prison doctor because he was complaining of chest pains, died of a heart attack... 3 mos after being put in jail.
I have had his jailer and his company's atty., BOTH, at different times, in my cab here in N.O.!! that's my NUTSHELL VERSION.

P.S.
See if you can eliminate the need to erase this box's content (the one that says... * Type your message here:) before I post a message in it.

Hate to say it but I disagree with the previous post entirely. What the hell is someone with the combination of a short fuse, a homicidal tendency, and a deadly weapon doing behind the wheel? Perhaps I could see killing the first person in the heat of the battle/argument/etc...but that doesn't explain why he would shoot the second person from several yards away IN THE BACK!

Does my bias in this matter happen to stem from the fact that these "techie assholes" were friends and regulars of mine? hell yeah...but I had known the guy that got shot in the back for over two years...

If you were the Austin Cab regulatory authority how could you have predicted these events? Answer is ... you would have been unable to. I never offered an explanation for Wayne shooting the guy in the back, I said he is reported to have said he feared not shooting him could result in losing the gun to him. That was his excuse. I see no excuse to shoot a fleeing assailant.
As I have said before, if you are going to taunt a rotweiller ya betta know how long the darn chain attached to his neck is.
Are you suggesting that cab drivers should be expected to tolerate all forms of verbal abuse? I have been abused and attacked a few times in my 32 yrs cab driving and I have still never shot anyone. I wasn't suggesting it was prudent of Wayne to do what he did. I do suggest passengers not risk death by folks in Wayne's frame of mind by taunting them.
