Subject: God, calm down the lot of you

well i missed the cotteridge festival but it seems to me that what was said about it by ralph has had a totally overblown response. i couldn't go so i can't comment on the bands but from what i've heard it seems to me like everyone's being over-defensive of the thing. much praise to reza for trying to organise a free festival and even more to muff for taking on soundaman duties but, without wanting to spark off a whole massive chain of abusive messages, it has to be said that the thing wasn't too well planned: there was hardly any advertising for it and charging £6 for a cd without a cover or even a tracklisting (!) is a joke. it was a nice idea but one that needed more time to get fully organised. and everyone's jumping to slag off SEf just because of a small message ralph wrote in a bad mood, but how would you react if it had been your band who were pulled off before they'd even properly got into their set? you'd porbably have been a bit pissed off as well. before anyone jumps to say something dumb like 'well they're shit anyway', if you'd seen their gig at scruffy murphys a couple of weeks ago then you would know that when they get into their stride, which always takes them a few songs, they are excellent. if you don't believe me come see them at the flapper next saturday (without the intention of just saying 'oh, they're crap') and you'll see just how good they can be. bryn may occasionally resort to speaking ina weird american accent, more out of nerves than anything else, but he is also one of the most charismatic frontmen you're likely to see in birminham and i doubt if many of you who played on saturday could work the audience quite the way he does. ralph is one of the nicest people i know and something he said ina bad mood has prompted a stupid reaction. bryn was actually positive about most of the bands who played so maybe you should hold back your bitching and give them a proper chance, something they weren't given on saturday while you all happily got to play your little hearts out.
