• And she enjoyed having someone to teach - she wasn't interested in running a barn of children and teaching them all to ride but she had never met anyone as grateful and willing and eager to learn as Lacey - she sucked up opportunities and took none for granted - it was refreshing when she thought of all the children at private schools and prearranged playgroups that she had dealt with as Ryan was growing up - kids who didn't know what good fortune was because goodness had been provided to them all along. She smiled brightly as Lacey reined the mare in. "That was great, you're truly a natural... just remember to keep the eyes up, right? Bella knows what she's doing and she'll get over that jump.   • "He's doing well.. the girl was a little bit shakey at first but she's gaining some confidence - that boy was rock solid, wasn't he?" She reached out to stroke Bella's neck, they had come a long way - that turnaround reminded her of herself too. "Why don't you cool her out then hop down here and put her up and we'll go get some lunch?" She loved taking the girl out -- even if it was for something as little as lunch - she especially enjoyed taking her shopping for horsey clothing - boots and breeches and helmets, the girl had been overwhelmed.   • She was just putting out a couple of flakes of hay for the horses in the turnout paddocks when Lacey finally emerged - they had hired hands to help out but she wasn't fussy about letting them do everything - in some way, doing some work on her own she felt, helped keep her grounded. She wasn't much like the mothers in the parent's league, all kept and unused to any type of work at all - she recognized that to get results, sometimes you had to do something, and she certainly didn't mind it at all. • Lacey flashed her a grin and nodded, picking hay off her breeches as she neared her boyfriends mother "Yep... I gave her some hay" Lacey loved doing things around the stables- and she took sole charge of Spencer and Bella- riding them both and mucking them out and such like every day- and she had been known to help the stable hands out with the other horses beds and feeds and such before now too. • She raised a brow and looked over at her - having worked with her in schooling and riding, she knew the girl was bright as a spark and could go far if she was given the right opportunities.. "Well have you ever thought about a scholarship? With your riding skills it wouldn't be hard to get a full scholarship.. you've got natural talent." And of course, whatever they came short with scholarships, she would fill in the blanks - the money wasn't doing anything better. • She smiled a touch at Elizas vote of confidence in her- it meant the world to her- it really did- but things weren;t that easy. "I thought about that... but the scholarships only cover tuition fees ... and we can;t afford the rest... besides... its time I started paying my way... Finally she nodded, accepting what the girl said but vowing to bring it up again - it was getting a little late for a January session but she could work on her for next fall. • Lacey was glad she didn't persue it- she didn;t like to let Eliza down- and she knew thats what she was doing in not going after what they both knew she wanted- but things just weren;t that simple. "I'm not sure... i could do secretarial work or waitressing I suppose... I guess I'll have to do that untill I turn 18." She was only 16 right now, though her 17th birthday was just a few days away. "Hopefully I can just work early shifts so I still have time to come here and ride and such... if I just worked 7am till 3pm that would leave plenty of time... espcially when the new indoor arena is finished" She smiled bright, glancing down towards where the new indoor riding arena was almost complete. • She tipped her head, looking over at the girl, and then back to the building zone. "You know.. I've been thinking about getting a couple of borders.. just privately, you know... and we'd need another hand, exercise rider, groom.. Especially if we start holding any shows here.." She shrugged a little, her hands in her pockets as they trudged towards the house. "Just an option for you.. and the pay will be fair.. you'll get to keep doing what you love to do.." • Her blue eyes lit up as she glanced to Eliza, but a knowing smile passed over her lips "Are you sure you aren;t just creating a job for me so you can help me out with money?" She grinned a touch, cocking a brow to her. She would love the job- its what she did anyway, and it would mean she would get to spend even more time at this beautiful haven she almost knew as home. • "Believe me, sweetheart, if I thought you were taking advantage, I wouldn't have offered. Besides, you love what you do here and you have a future in it - everyone has to start somewhere, you might as well get paid for what you do now." She grinned and reached out an arm to sling over the girl's shoulders - unlike her husband, she was very openly physically affectionate, always hugged Ryan and her husband before they left their home and had taken to doing the same with Lacey - she was like a part of the family now. • She grinned broadly and allowed Eliza to tuck her to her side with an excited grin. It would be quite exciting to have a few boarders here, there would be at least six empty stalls when the horses who were in for training left in a few weeks. She knew her husband wouldn't mind - "And you can ride a rotation of the horses in for training until they leave next week and then we'll find something else for you to do. Sound fair?" She was sure that in the end, they would end up taking long hacks together, leisurely, and do most of the exact same things they were doing right now, but it didn't bother her in the least bit, especially if it meant she could help her out a little. • Lacey nodded eagerly, her eyes bright and intense as a smile tugged at her lips "Sounds great" she responded, tucking a loose strand of blonde behind her ear. Lacey loved doing even all the jobs people paid their stable hands to do- and she took a lot of effort over every job she was assigned. She was a hard worker- and Eliza probably knew that by now. Ryan was an only child and the majority of their staff who felt comfortable enough to converse were male - she felt she was too old to bear another child, so it didn't bother her to take this girl in.
