I do my best to use every tactic that was covered and more. One way of keeping a thief from getting an item was not mentioned though. There are times when you can be certain that you are near a thief, like on the ledge at tets or in the star room. When you are fairly certain you are being searched just pick up your scroll and hold on to it outside your pack while you move away. Works best if you let them search you first so they don't think you have anything worth taking:)
