Subject: She steps in, eyes downcast and dull, but wary. She flicks her tail nervously, glancing back towards Black Death in the woods behind her. She again turns to face the TT, her eyes searching for Mercury with both anticipation and dread...but when she catches sight of her, she gasps, forgetting the awkwardness of her return, and crashes out of the forest and to her side. Subject Author Date *Tall mare yanks herself to her feet, her dizzy spell seeming to be over. She snorts on seeing the filly, anger mixed with happiness and confusion flash across her face. She flattens her ears back and turns away so that she couldn't see the mare's eyes "Yes?" She slowly raises her eyes to fall upon the tall mare, reflecting how every part of her heart pleaded for the mare to listen, and to understand... "I hadn't meant to hurt you so...it was the last thing I wanted, believe me..." Her voice chokes out, as she continues to peer at the mare, hoping for a response, any response, so long as there wasn't the horrible silence stretched between them... "Leave us child, we need to sort this alone."She nods to the edge of the territory."Go, wait over there."She says softly but firmly. Turning back, she glares down at Cobweb. "Hurt? You have no understanding of how powerful that is. And you still haven't told me why. I don't think you quite understand what trouble you are in. You've run away with the King's son, his first born and his heir. You know what its like to grow up without parents. Well, think how it must feel for the parents to miss on their foal growing up. I'll tell you from experiance that it hurts like hell." She turns away, not letting either youngster see her face.* (NT) -- Mercury, 10:07:37 07/29/01 Sun She shivers, realizing that something in Mercury's past might have only fueled her hurt and her anger... She hesitates a moment before saying softly, "There was more to the story than me simply leaving to run off with a colt... It's not that..." She shifts her weight, taking a moment to try to collect her thoughts to know what to say next. "I... The whole argument between the two was because of me...the King had his grudges against me beforehand, but when Dusk defied him to come for me... I assume he'd have me killed on sight if he were to see me, which is why I left..." He sees Dusk enter and his eyes widen for only a second, he watches even more closely, now his attention focused more on the edges of the territory, wary for his uncle or another angry horse to enter. She knew she had to be careful with her words, for this was sensitive ground for Mercury... Dusk had come and spoken too soon for her liking. She inhaled, holding her breath and watching for Mercury's reaction as she fidgeted in place, breaking into a bit of a sweat... (NT) -- Cobweb, 10:40:01 07/30/01 Mon *She snorts. "Oh just go, I'm not going to change your minds. Fine Dusk, have it your way. I hope you are happy, for I have lost everyone I ever cared about." She turns and walks away to another part of the territory, her back turned on the youngsters and her long black mane flowing behind her neck. Half turning, she says quietly. "Tis near time for me to leave this place anyways, all it has brought me is grief and hurt. I must admit, Cobweb." she says, raising her voice."I never took you for a quitter. And you Dusk, if your grandfather were here today..." She trails off, and walks further away, standing alone on the highest point of the territory.* (NT) -- Mercury, 11:05:11 07/30/01 Mon "if WE are such quitters..then why have we returned here? You say you love her but love is unconditional...I love my father...I dont like him...but my love is his...just as my mother loves and supports me...and I promise you that you havent lost Cobweb...she is and always will be free to come and go as she pleases...It is better to keep her out of my fathers site till he cools down...I know him better then you do Mercury....and what do ye know of my grandfather...he would be proud that I took a stand for what and whom I love...hed be sorry that my father turned on those he loved...hed be sorry that you are throwing everything away because you cant see that we arent leaving you...we are here...she came back because of you and I came back to make sure she was alright here....I have also decided to stay and face my father...cousin Wit has had her foal...her foal hates me...she can sense my evil...shes smart....Ive come back to talk to my father...to keep Cobweb safe...to not leave her" (NT) -- dusk, 11:43:06 07/30/01 Mon *Anger rises inside her. "Don't you dare speak to me like you know me, because you don't. What do I know of your grandfather? He was dead before you were born, what do you know of him? Of course Whisper in the Wind's foal hates you, you cannot expect the good horses to put behind them all we evil have done to them. I'm suprised she even took you in. But then you are just a young one, and just remember that. I have asked you to leave, Dusk. Tis not you I need to be speaking with and I do not like your interruption."She pins her ears slightly and awaits Cobweb's response.* (NT) -- Mercury, 12:49:28 07/30/01 Mon She pins her ears slightly, upset that both are arguing. In a low voice, biting back any anger she has, she says, "Dusk, please go. This is between Mercury and I, and I don't need your help... Please, it's my problem, not yours..." She watches him for a moment more before slowly turning towards Mercury. Her words had held so much truth- they always had... She drops her head, "Mercury, I... I just wanted to apologize to you. I realize my leaving was perhaps a bit rash, and that I might regret it, but..." She sighs softly, "I saw, and still do not see, any other choice... You heard the words the King had to say about me- how could I have stayed when our ruler hated me so?" She lets her voice trail off, glancing up with still-pleading eyes...
