Subject: Completely and totally OT, but gotta vent. (If you have kids, read this, you'll appreciate it.)

Holy cow, what a morning. I had a rough night last night, and only got about 4 hours of sleep. So I was kinda tired. DH had to work 1st shift today, instead of his normal afternoon shift. Which meant that I got to take dd to kindergarten, packing along the two younger kids as well. I know that's no big deal, but it's a pain in the butt. Usually one of us will take her to school while the other stays home with the younger kids. In the five minutes before time to leave for school, I discovered that DD had gotten cereal bar smeared all over her pant leg, necessitating a quick clothing change. During the change, I found that she had drawn a mural on the back of her closet door with a highlighter. I'm talking people, rolling hills, the whole bit. She hasn't drawn on the walls in over 3 years, so I don't know WHAT got into her. Spanked her and bundled her into the car, with her wailing the whole way that it was her brothers fault for giving her the highlighter. So she was a little late for school.

Anyway. Got home, and put the 1yo down for her nap, and settled the 2yo in front of the TV. (Yes, I use the electric babysitter more often then I should. Sue me.) Cleaned the kitchen. During the cleaning, the garbage disposal was acting up, and I found a leak in a pipe under the sink. I HAD to take a nap, I was dragging. So I lay down for a bit after the kitchen was clean. During my 30 minute nap, the phone rang three times and my 2yo came in four times to show me stuff. I ignored the phone completely, and let the machine pick up. After I got up, to go pick up dd, I checked the machine and found out that one of the calls had been the school nurse. DD had a fever and was really pale, and had some kind of weird rash. Rushed down to pick her up - k-garten was over for the morning anyway. She was fine by then, but I felt terribly guilty for missing the call. I was talking to the teacher about it, and dd was running around playing with a friend, when she fell, and scraped both her knees and her palm. She was freaking out crying. Ugh! Down to the nurses office for bandaids. On the opposite end of the school, thankyouverymuch. The little kids were still waiting in the car.

Got home, and talked to the Dr. DD's teacher said that everything under the sun has been in the classroom: chicken pox, scarlet fever, a bazillion various flu-bug-type-things, you name it. They told me a few things to watch for, and said she didn't need to be seen at the moment. The rash that the nurse mentioned was completely gone. I never saw it.

After all that got settled, I was playing with my 2yo, and was on my hands and knees beside dh's dresser. I bumped it, and a videotape fell off of it. It hit me smack between the eyes, from a height of about six feet. The part that hit me was one of the corners, so now I have a bleeding dent between my eyes, and it hurts like heck.

I'm not sure what the deal is, but every once in a while, I have a day like this. The whole day is a mess, and it usually culminates with me getting bonked in the head somehow. I had one of these days about a month ago. That particular day ended with me hitting myself in the head with the minivan door. (We are official members of the mid-America minivan owners club. Hee. With three kids and a budget that won't support and SUV, options are pretty limited.) My hope is that the ritual head injury indicates that the crummy part of the day is over. DH will be home in about a half hour. Until then, I'm just hunkered down in the bedroom trying to wait it out.

Okay, end rant.
