All the information I got from the articles was that Fischer sent the telegram in June, 1974 and in April, 1975 he was deprived of his title. I understood that none of the FIDE members contacted him at the time. Correct me if I am wrong.

I've just found a few old contributions about this issue in Kasparov guestbook. Khariton reaction was more than strange.

The converstaion was about Euwe, Khariton wrote that Euwe saved Fischer-Spassky match in 1972. Then somebody asked him if Euwe could save Fischer-Karpov match in 1975 and whether it was true that during the extreme FIDE congress Baturinsky in fact made an ultimatum from Karpov's name: if the last demand of Fischer is accepted Karpov wouldn't play. And it was this ultimatum that has predetermined the result of voting. Khariton just ignored the answer, despite the question was repeated three times! And it is not the first time when he avoids the answer. I suppose he knows the answer but for some reason doesn't want to give it.
