Subject: Tyketto/Deadline/Teer - Nottingham

Or should that be 'Frustrated, Frozen, & F***** Off !

I'm now back at home in Ipswich after seeing the Teer / Deadline / Tyketto gig at Nottingham. And believe me when I tell you I am NOT a 'happy camper' at this moment in time.

I'd chosen to go to the Nottingham gig rather than the nearer London gig for a couple of reasons.

Firstly I have a friend who works near Lincoln. As a non car driver and therefore a user of public transport, it meant that rather than rush around on the Monday I could travel up on Sunday and stay the night over at my friends house.

Secondly I'd bought my friend the Tyketto ticket as a birthday present ( and hence bringing someone else to the gig and therefore doing my little bit to ensure a good turnout ).

Thirdly, If I go to London ... I have to leave halfway through the main act in order to catch the last train back to Ipswich. Staying in a hotel in London is not an option as they are just too damm expensive, especially single rooms !

Finally I obviously would be able to get a lift to and from the gig from my friend.

Unfortunately due to the nature of my friends work he was unable to get any time off on the Tuesday & he starts very early in the morning so we needed to be heading our way back just after midnight. Based on the published 'Doors open' time of 19:30, I did my normal rough calculations; Teer would probably be on by 8:15, Deadline would be on by 9:15, Tyketto would be on at about 10:30 finishing just before midnight.

Based on that timetable what we decided to do was park at one of the Tram Park & Ride car parks, and travel to the venue by Tram. Last tram back to the car park from the venue was 00:05 so basically it looked like everything would be OK ( or at the worst case we would move to the back of the venue just before the encore and possibly leave just as Tyketto would have been playing their last track ). And we would be able to get out of the car park before it was locked for the night.

As usual just before setting off on the Monday checked my usual sources to ensure that none of the details had changed ( start time etc ). According to everywhere I looked everything was still a go at the stated times.

I have been looking forward to this concert for months. I own all the albums of all three bands, I really rate Deadline as an up and coming band ( and was hoping that advanced copies of the new CD would be available at the show ), and obviously I am a Tyketto & Vaughn fan.

It was great excitement that I walked up Talbot street joining the queue at about 19:00. Already there was a queue of about 10-15 people for the Tyketto show, as time went on the queue gradually grew.

Given that Keane were playing the main hall that night I would have thought that there would have been clearer signs / security guards to ensure that the two queues were kept separate ( a number of Keane fans were in our queue by mistake ) ... this was an ominous omen on what was to follow.

Finally a security guard came out and said that at the request of the bands the doors would not be opening until 21:00 , and that we should have all been telephoned and told ( yeah like I believed that !!! ). There was a small A4 poster on the door stating this fact but unless you went right up to the front of the queue and looked at the door you would not see it. If you just walked by the queue ( which we did ) you would not see a thing !!!

Of course this now meant that there was no way in hell that I was going to see the full Tyketto gig, and having so far spent over £90 on train travel, gig tickets, & food I was non too pleased !!!! While waiting in the queue I e-mailed Kieran from my mobile and had a little rant & rave ( sorry Kieran but at that point the security guard was laying the blame at you guys ). If I'd known about the change in time before hand I could have tried to find a hotel and would have brought my luggage with me from Lincoln

Of course the security guard suggested that we should go off and come back later, but as people who are familiar with the venue ( we were in 'The Rig' ) know the stage is very small and if you don't get near the front you ain't going to be able to see thing ( especially when you are only 5ft 5inches !!!!! ). So to be honest there was no alternative than to sit in the queue until 21:00, not my idea of fun on a cold November night ( though I suppose I should be cheerful and say at least it didn't rain ! ).

Of course as we all got colder outside we started to wonder OK even if the gig isn't going to start until 21:00, could they at least let us into the venue to get out of the cold. We wouldn't even care if they didn't open the bar straight away ... we would have just appreciated getting inside out of the cold.

The doors finally opened at 21:05 and a lot of p****d off fans tramped into the venue.

Once inside I was told by another fan that the reason for the delay was that the venue ( &/or Keane ) wouldn't allow any of the bands to set-up / soundcheck until 19:30 !

Now I was really riled .... Why as a fan of Melodic Rock is my money not worth the same respect and treatment of a fan going to see Keane ? Why, considering that this date has been in the Rock City calendar for months, wasn't the venue able to handle two gigs setting up and soundchecking at the same time .... Why was a security guard sent out to say that it was the bands fault !!!!

To Teer & Deadlines credit they both speedily appeared on stage and dashed through their obviously shortened sets in order to try and get things back on track. The change over between Teer & Deadline was done in less than five minutes and things kept on moving .... ( maybe just maybe I might be able to hear 75% of the show ).

The changeover between Deadline & Tyketto took b****y ages .... While with the other bands they all stuck into to clear the decks as fast as they could. Tyketto had a guitar tech to do the set-up ... anyone who knows Tyketto knows that they have a lot of guitars to set-up ... and once again sods law struck and the guy had problems with both the 12 string acoustic & the bass guitar. I know that Tyketto were the 'headline' act ... but given the circumstance you might of thought they would have been able to help out with the set-up just to keep things moving ... or even come out and just say we trying our best just bear with us ... but nope nothing ! Believe me at that point in time there were a number of shouts along the line of 'get on with it' being shouted !!!!!!

In the end I managed to hear the first 30 minutes of Tyketto from the front. As I wanted to get some merchandise ... my mate and I moved to the back at that ( because of the late opening it hadn't been possible beforehand ). I also went up to the bar and asked for the name of the manager of the venue so that I could lodge a complaint ... the venue actually keeps complaint forms behind the bar so I was also asked to fill one of these before leaving ( so I spent my last 10 minutes at the gig filling in this form ). Of course just to make matters worse I was unable to purchase the new Deadline album :-( ... the expected stock hadn't arrived prior to the start of the tour ( they were expecting some to arrive on the next day ). Just my Luck !!!

We left the venue at 11:50 .... the first ever time I have had to leave a Tyketto / Vaughn gig while the guys were playing and believe me was I grumpy for the rest of the trip back to Lincoln.

As stated above I have filled in a complaint form at the venue and will be following this up with a letter to the manager of the venue. I would encourage anyone else who feels the same way to do the same. The managers contact details are :

Yours grumpingly
