Subject: Mitsubishi Galant trany and acceleration problem

hello, I just purchased a 1991 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4, 5 -speed, turbo AWD, 4WS, DOHC #1284 of #2000 (cool!) I have a few problems with the car that I would like to fix. In my transmission I think a synchro is going out. Grinds into second , not so bad when accelerating but when shifting down. If I shift it easy it will shift somewhat smmoothly. I am pretty sure it is a synchro or a synchro sleeve but I would like a second opinion. What would be the best fix? New trany or just fix the old one. How about a place to get one for a good price. Also when I accelerate in first my car seems like it wants to move but it accelerates but doesn't pick up speed, seems like clutch slippage or maybe something in the transfer case. I really want to keep this car because I have never driven such a unique car before. Help would be greatly appreciated. Would make a good rally car, No? Thanks, Beau
