Subject: Mitsubishi Galant strange behaviour

Galant 98 ES 4-cyl automatic trans. When I drive and the engine is cold the tachometer shows bigger value for the same speed than when it's hot. But it I drive more than 200 miles I can see other situation - tachometer shows bigger value than before. It looks like the enging loses power. "Thermometer" stands at the middle. So I don't think the enging is overheated. What can it be ?
