Subject: automatic transmission

I have an 1987 Oldsmobile Toronado that will not shift from second to third. I can shift from second to overdrive when the car reaches around 47mph in second gear. There is also a rattle between the engine and tranny all the time. The rattle does not get louder at higher speeds so therefore I think this is purely from the transmission not the engine. The engine is very strong and the car has about 175,000 miles on it.
