Subject: "Source...at the source of it...view source...OF COURSE!!""

Dax nearly leapt up from his desk upon his discovery of the true meaning of the message he had recieved from Lady Embyr of the Cybertronian Senate. At first, while glad to hear from an old friend, he had been disappointed that it was a trivial greeting, and little more. Part of him had hoped that the present political powers in charge on Cybertron were notifying the AOD that they would be recieving some official recognition. While Astrotrain's organization actually benefitted form its independence from the home world, Dax was part of a small minority that believed having the backing of Cybertron would increase the resources of the Charr-based organization. Most of his peers opposed the opinion on the basis that, autonomous from any ruling body, the justice they sought, the very principles upon which Octane originally founded them, would better be served. Cybertron had had some tumultuous governing bodies, but Dax optimistically hoped that the Senate presently in power, with a balanced roster of representatives from various factions, might serve the interests of all Cybertron's people.

Dax pondered the information he now had on hand though. Rereading the message, now that he had seen the part about Bastion encrypted in the source code, he realized that even her use of the word 'barrier', synonymous with bastion, was deliberate if subtle. Embyr always was a tricky one. Dax welcomed help of any kind from Cybertron though, official or otherwise, and now had to consider what to do with the information.

A quick scan of shipping lanes and military records shed some more light on the situation, backing up what Dax already recalled. Starbase Bastion was an old Cybertronian installation, discarded in peace time like so many others. If it was active again, surely Cybertron must have a reason for doing so? Unless, he considered, it wasn't Cybertron that activated it. Pirates? Salvagers? A rogue operation perhaps? Whatever the scenario, an investigation had surely been deployed already, long before the information reached him. There had to be more going on than Dax could surmise from the history and such a brief messgae. The only way to be sure would be to investigate.

At this point Dax noticed Aviar Flux had returned, and was already handing out assignments. "Good..." he thought, "A lot of these 'bots get rowdy if they're idle too long, especially the younger ones." Unfortunately, it also meant that the staff would be thinned, in all probability leaving little if any to investigate his matter. Further, he couldn't disclose the source of his information. He neither wanted to risk his friend's career as a Senator, nor lose a valuable pipeline into Cybertronian affairs. AOD intel was sometimes unrealistically penetrating, but never for lack of confidential informants. He could get clearance from Astrotrain based on intel supplied by a C.I., but it wouldn't have as much precedence as the other assignments. Noting now that Astrotrain had finished his interview, the young man Dax had ushered in earlier already being given an assignment, he knocked and entered Astrotrain's office.

"Sir, sorry to interupt. With your permission, a matter has come to my attention that bears investigation. I think we definitely should send an agent and, if none are available, I'd like to offer my own services to check this one out personally..."

And Dax went on to explain his suspicions about a dead Starbase becoming active again, possibly in hands other than Cybertron's. Astrotrain listened intently to the story before making his decision...
