I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LOCATE A MAJOR I THINK HE WSA THE COMMANDER OF A227 SPECIAL FORCES AT LZ DOG IN BONG SON OR THE MACV COMP IN BONG SON HE TOOK ME TO THE DISPECNRY FROM THE ANBUSH SITE WHERE I HIT THE MINE . AT THAT TIME WE ONLY OPERATED AS A PLATOON THE REST OF THE UNIT WAS IN TUY HOA DOUN SOUTH WITH THE 101 AIRBORNE WE ALSO SUPPORTED THE SPECIAL FORCES CAMP AT LZ UPLIFT OR ZL DOG I CANT REMEMBER IT WAS A LONG TIME AGO (JUST FOR YOUR INFORMATION THAT SMALL UNIT MOVED ALL OVER VIET NAM ) WE CONVOYED FROM TUY HOA BACK TO AK KHE IN LATE 1966 WE ALSO CONVOYED FROM AN KHE TO QUI NHON AND LOADED ON LST"S AT THE PORT THERE AND MOVED BY SHIP NORTH TO PEANUT ISLAND WE COULDENT GET OFF THE ISLAND BECOUSE WE WERE MORTARED EVERY NIGHT AND THE ENGINEERS COULDENT FINISH THE BAILEY BRIDGE FROM PEANUT ISLAND ACROSS THE RIVER. WE WERE HIT EVERY NIGHT UNTIL THE 39TH COMBAT ENGINEERS COULD FINISH THE BRIDGE. WE STAYED ON LZ ENGLISH FOR ABOUT 96 DAYS AS I RECALL THERE TOO WE WERE HIT ALMOST EVERY NIGHT BY MORTARS THE PLATOON LEADER WES 1ST LT THOMAS I DONT KNOW WHERE HE WAS FROM I DO REMEMBER WE HAD A PAIR OF BROTHERS IN THE UINT I TINK THEIR LAST NAME WAS CARPENTER. WE ALSO HAD A GUY WHOES NAME WAS WELLMAN E-5 HE LEFT VIETNAM AND WENT TO FLIGHT SCHOOL AT FORT RUCKER ALABAMA IN LATE 1966 OR EARYL 1967 WE LOST A FEW PEOPLE IN GONG SON AND A LOT OF EQUIPMENT WE USE TO GO TO THE RIVER A FEW MILES SOUTH OF LZ ENGLISH TO GET A BATH IN THE RIVER THERE . THE BRIDGE WAS BLOUN UP ACROSS THE RIVER THERE AND WE HAD TO UAT THE RAILROAD BRIDGE TO CROSS UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED. THE UNIT HAD A LOT OF GOOD PEOPLE IN IT BUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CANT THINK OF THEIR NAMES NOW THERE WAS A SGT FISHER . SSG BARR. WELLMAN AS I SAID BEFORE. ME I WAS AN E-5 THEN AND AFTER THAT TOUR I GOT OUT OF THE ARMY FOR THREE YEARS. I CAME BACK IN IN 1970 AND RETURNED TO VIETNAM. I ALSO HAD TWO BROTHERS THERE ON MY FIRST TOUR. TWO BROTHER IN LAWS IVE BEEN RETIRED FOR FIFTEEN YEARS AND I HAVENT MIAAED ONE SECOND OF IT. HOPE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHO WAS IN THE 513TH ENG CO (DT) ERNEST D OGDEN 1SG USA RETIRED (GOD BLESS)
