My name is Fernando Lopez I arrived on the Island of Lojwa in
early 1977 spent the whole year there. I was there when we evacuated to Guam because of the typhoon. I remember filling hundreds of sandbags. I was with the 84th Engineers out of Hawaii. I was a crane operator, I remember off loading the first trailers with real latreens. I spent most my time sitting out in the middle of the lagoon on a barge with a crane with a clamshell waiting for the Navy mikeboat to bring out debris from the Islands so I could dump into the lagoon. Very lonely job. Left in January 1978. Still healthy, don't know for how long.
