It has come to light in recent weeks that a certain "J. Grant" as he likes to be known, has been terrorizing the Keenspace mailing list for nigh on a year or more. Now, I know many of you may not care about this, and I don't know if any of you have/support/read webcomics, but this ma...er...there are no words for what he is if I am to keep the language here clean... has been assaulting all but a very few webcomic artists on this list with such lowly language and very uncouth statements. I have seen him praise only one comic, and he still made a detracting statement. He believes his comic is the God of all comics, and yet his art and humor could both stand improvement. He has insulted newbies and vets alike, even taking it so far as to insult one of our admins, if my memory serves me correctly.
This is my plea, fellow webjunkies, help us take down this man, even through sheer textual castration. Please, if you find the time, and desire after reading this. Then join us in our quest to silence him... He can be reached through his forum via the link above, or at deadcoil@flemcomics.com

(If you need me to set the mood of this post, then I'm just being honest. No snideness or cynics. I'm just going to be completely open with you. I'm also not angry...at the moment.)
Kit, if you'd like a "newbie's" view of this place, I'll give you mine. Use this information if you want, or you can always just ignore it. Or even delete it.
When you practically begged me to join, I was ecstatic. "Wow," I said to myself. "We didn't get along before (for reasons still unbeknownst to me), but maybe we can now!" So I joined as a relatively new characer of mine that has never been used before. And also the daughter of one that will be introduced shortly into the plot of WCM.
But from the very first post, I began to groan. I swiftly apologized for forgetting the "I read the intro!" thing in the subject. I also agreed to go through with the hassle of reposting. "Give them a second chance," I kept thinking to myself.
Next, I was in the wrong tense and was snapped at because it sounded to me like it was only a suggestion, not a rule. I was beginning to feel like an outsider, like it was impossible for me to ever get inside yours, Amber's, Kelsey's, and the other people's little circle. But still I went on.
When I messed up on Kaligo's gender, I got a rude cough directed at me (hope the Robitussin helped, Kels; LOL), and now instead of feeling just that same awkward discomfort that I was feeling, I was beginning to get irritated. I tried hard to keep it out of my posts. I was constantly telling myself, "Ah, it was a rough start, but I'm sure it'll get better."
It didn't. With the last couple days' fiasco, that just drove me over the edge. I knew it was your RPG and if you wanted to be strict, that was your choice, but deleting my farewell message? That just did it for me.
To be honest, I don't think there's any way we can RP together, Kit. Even now, with a less plot-oriented board, I just don't see it happening. We just can't seem to find a common ground. But that doesn't mean we can't just talk OOC together.
If it's not against the rules, could I just talk to you here? OOC? (See, there I go, going against my word already.)
And another bit of info about your board: Do you remember Castor from WCM? Or were you not there in his days? Well, he said he watched the progress of your board for a long time, but he was so scared he'd get rejected or bashed that he didn't join.
Do what you will with this information. For now, that is all I have to say.

Achem. Anyway, the first thing I need to do is apologize to Tara. m(__)m I'm very sorry, Tara; I had no idea that deleting your posts would cause any sort of panic or strife. I'm afraid that I didn't consider that, and I'll remember this incident for next time. My only defense is that I'm not accustomed to people saying "goodbye." Where I come from, people just leave or stop checking the boards and forget they exist. ^_^;;; If someone leaves in the middle of a plot, he or she writes out her characters and then we never hear from him or her again.
As for your "friendly advertisement," well, all text is bitchy by default (so I was told once, and so I believe), so what may have seemed like a "friendly advertisement" to you was borderline "spamming" to me. Of course you can do some "friendly advertising," but since the NB is just now getting on its feet, it might not look so good if one of the first three posts is an advertisement. ^^ So you might want to do that here. If you like, we'll even link you, though I'm not sure how much traffic that would bring you (as you can probably tell, this place lacks membership).
There is one point I'm going to address from one of your previous posts, and that was your complaint about the rules. Now, maybe you're fortunate enough to run an RPG where you can get by with relatively few rules, but that is not the case here. Actually, this place used to have even more stringent rules, including a three-strikes rule, but I got rid of that because I felt that it made this place too dictatorial (uh, it is gone, right?). An influx of newbies once nearly caused the ruin of this place, and I'm trying to avoid that happening again. If some people feel the rules are too strict, well, I'm sorry, but in order to learn there have to be some guidelines, and I stress learning above all in this place.
And I don't think Gen was overstepping her bounds at all, though she might have been a little caustic. But that's who she is and that's her right, so I'm not going to chew her out because she didn't actually say anything derogatory.
Now, Tara, if you want to leave because you don't like watching "drunken antics," then that's your perogative and I'm certainly not going to stop you. But I think you'll be missing out on a lot; I mean, this is now a board purely for character development, which I think is interesting in itself (Gen seems to agree, so maybe I'm not alone in this). I'm personally looking forward to developing some of my characters who're gathering dust for lack of activity.
But my intention isn't to lecture or anything. So if you're really leaving, Tara, then farewell, goodbye, auf weidersehn, goodnight! Okay, I'll stop with the bad Sound of Music jokes now. Seriously now, farewell and you're welcome back anytime.

First off, this isn't a direct (or indirect... I think) attack at any one person. So anybody who feels they simply must take it as such and defend themselves will get referred to the great moron-o-meter.

One of the key aspects to roleplaying is character develepment.
That being said, I am happy about Kit's decision to change the format of the Newbie Board, because, frankly, I've seen a lot of people want to jump in to the plot with stick figure, cookie cutter characters.
Anyone with moderate or more experience knows how frustrating this can be.
However, I don't think this change to the NB lessens the ability to roleplay. What this will in fact do (to those who want to learn) is start with the very basic building blocks of RPing and work up.
(In truth, I'd rather read about interesting characters lounging in a bar than a plot that's being drowned under 2D dhadows.)
It's sad to see that this change will cause people to leave, because it probably means 1: they don't feel they should have to learn, 2: they think (wrongly) that plot and action takes precedence over character, or 3: they're too lazy.
Nothing to be done about the latter.
About the two former... there's a sticky point.
From what I've observed, the best RPers know they always have room to learn. That's what makes them so good. Those who resist or shut themselves off... usually a lot of improvement could go there.
But of course, can't force anyone to learn, no matter how much hard evidence you have that they should.
Anyway, the original plot seemed to be suffering, because it's very difficult to try and teach all aspects of RPing at once. So perhaps now we can look at the boards like this:
NB -> Character development.
RB -> Plot development/interaction
EB -> Self explanatory, IMO.
(plus it's late and I can't think of wat it could help to improve upon... I'll try again later)
In any case, for those wanting to learn, this will work better (and maybe by chasing other people away, it'll weed ut serious students from those others [insert adjective] RPers).
As Kit once said, there are those who RP for fun, and those who take it a bit (a lot?) more seriously. Once a person realizes what these boards are for, I don't think it's appropriate to try and change the board to suit the individual.
There's a thousand and one boards 'for fun', anyway. These just happen to be more involved than that.

The color table has been revamped. This doesn't affect the links, so they will still point to the correct URL. Now the color table allows javascript enabled browsers to change the background color as they're previewing text colors. Also, I've included the non-dithering (web safe) color chart.

Ok, here's the deal, don't know how many of the goers read here, but I thought this'd be the best place to say this:
I'm taking a hiatus, which is why I've kind of made sure my charas stay out of everyones problems and such in the various areas.... School starts tomorrow and I'm going to bed in like a half an hour, I'll start posting some more once I get back "into the swing of things".
Even then, don't expect too much or too often, as I'll be out of it for the majority of the year, hehe, being a senior is almost as bad as college from what I've heard. Especially with the Administration we have. Bunch of Backwardly Mobile retards who have no idea how to do their respective jobs, so if I haven't blown up the school or myself by the end of the year, consider me to have survived a nuclear holocaust or such.

I just realized that Kaligo has literally grown and matured. I don't know if this is a reflection of my own growth or the character's own doing, but it's kinda cool and unnerving at the same time. I don't know if any of you remember Kaligo when he was still "Kage," but he was extremely insecure and childish at the time. Mostly insecure. Now he's become much more confident and relaxed. I wonder if it's because of Winter?
