Subject: Perhaps you can help someone.

I am just pasting the same letter we received in the captain's acro council. God bless...

Fellow acroers:

I just wanted to let you all know (with her permission) that BDK^..^~t~ of the Couch^..^Taters, formerly of the Alley^..^Cat acro team, has AML Leukemia. I will insert below part of a post she has made to explain more. The bottom line is, along with our hopes and prayers for her, BDK requires a bone marrow transplant ASAP, and so far the matches are very limited thru the registry. I am hoping that thru the acro council, then thru the team membership, and perhaps to friends and families that maybe there may be a match found out there somewhere : )

Enough said from me, and I'll let you read BDK's own words....

I'd really appreciate it if folks got the word out about getting tested for being a bone marrow donor -- if not for me, then for others waiting. It's really easy to be tested (you just have to give 2 tubes of blood). If you're a match with someone, it's a little more complicated to donate marrow, but most transplant centers no longer go in and harvest marrow right from the hip, they now do it as if you were giving blood (but it takes a lot longer) -- it kind of reminds me of what it looks like to go through dialysis.

I think it would be a pretty neat thing to be able to save another person's life and this is one form of transplant where somebody doesn't have to die first for another person to live!

Interested folks should check out www.marrow.org.

I have 2 potential matches, but I'm told that's really a very low number. Apparently some component of my WBC's Human Leukocyte Antigens (abbreviated as HLA) is rare because they had hoped that I would have had more like 35-70
potential matches. But then again, only 2.5 out of every 100,000 people get Leukemia, so that's rare too. It takes something like 3 months to find a suitable match once a potential match has been identifed so I'm hoping and
praying to stay healthy enough to undergo chemo once a suitable donor is found.

Thanks again friends
Geuve^..^~t~
