Now I know what one of the lines of BNL's "The Old Apartment" means.

Furthermore, I can assuredly not speak with any degree of certainty about the greatness of any World Series before I was born. I was present for the 1988 World Series and NLCS so, to me, that is by far the greatest -- I could be a part of it. As far as the others are concerned, 1991 was also great. 1997 featured impressive games. I also enjoyed the 1985 World Series thoroughly. I think 1986 was immensely overrated. I don't think I'm too much of a newtimer though. Personally, I believe the greatest moment in baseball history is the Gibson homer, followed closely by Thomson's homer. Yet, when it came to voting at the stadium, you can be damn sure I didn't vote for no steenking Giants.

My ballot was, I believe, Gibby's homer, Hubbell striking out five straight HOFers, Aaron's 715, McGwire's 62 and Mazeroski's homer. Carter's homer just missed my list and Larsen's perfecto and Thomson's homer were ineligible for my list because they came against my beloved Dodgers.

Bonds is slowly earning his way to being in my mind the best ever (he still trails Ruth and possibly Mays in my mind), but Rickey Henderson doesn't get anywhere near the respect he deserves. Anywho, I've had the fortune to see them both play many times, as well as other legends -- Rose, Maddux, Bench, Schmidt, Randy Johnson, Pedro and many others.
