Subject: Now, I feel badly for Todd.
In reply to: LS 's message, "Canada was robbed." on 23:37:44 02/11/02 Mon

I was pondering after Todd's performance last night whose situation is worse. I've come to the conclusion that at least the oh-so-robbed Canadians know they maximized their personal performance. They can not control the extraneous forces that, obviously, would have voted the same way regardless of the performances at hand. However, poor Todd, who's been the victim of similar circumstances in the past, stayed out of the retirement home (professional skating) to drag his aged 31 year old butt to these Olympics so he could compete against athletes almost half his age, only to perform to less than his capacity. What a freakin' drag that is. Four years gone to waste on one atypical performance. And, he can't blame anyone else but himself.

Picabo, we didn't see you either. I don't feel as badly for her though, because she has reaped her accolades in the past.

I'd want to do my best, no matter the outcome. By the same token, I'm sure the Russian couple feels their gold is tainted, because you could see the recognition of their flawed performance versus the flawless one. It's sort of like cheating to win, even though they didn't do it (the judges did), there's just no satisfaction if you truly don't earn it.

I don't know how you feel, but I think I'd prefer if everyone could perform to their maximum capacity. And may the best man, woman, couple or team win, lose or draw.
