Subject: Weekend Perspective, anyone? (Subtitle: This Week In Sports)

Hello again, and welcome to another installment of Weekend Perspective. I will swim a somewhat steady course through all the controversy, scandal, and NBA trades to wrap up the week. No, I will not wear goggles and Speedos™!

Without further ado...

-- Ah, heck, let's start with Mike Tyson again. He returned his license to Georgia and got one in Washington, DC. If Tyson ends up scheduling a fight there (Lewis or not), it figures to be a big step in boosting the DC economy after the September 11th attacks triggered a dry spell.

Speaking of a dry spell, =we= will finally be getting back into our unofficial intersquad match action tonight against Phoenix. Wednesday night's Tubbers match was cancelled. Also, our TGIF Happy Hour didn't exactly happen either. Speaking for most of us, I don't think our minds have really been on Acro lately, heh.

-- Simple equation here: Controversy + Protest = The 2002 Winter Olympics. The Russians have voiced their strong opinions about poor judging and alleged conspiracy by the Americans. Also, the South Koreans were more than dissatisfied with the DQ of their speed skater after he appeared to cross the line while in a heated race with the eventual gold medalist, American Apollo Ohno. This, of course, added fuel to the Russian fire as well. The Russians have stayed in Salt Lake, but not without further protesting.

Like I said earlier, not much going on with the =team= this week. No protests or controversy around here. Of course, there is still the MBA voting going on. An American and a Canadian are tied for the lead. The big hockey game is tomorrow too. Hmm.

-- Sports again. You know me. I've got to have one or two sports bits in my posts. Three, in this case. As a matter of fact, nothing but sports today! Big trades in the NBA going on. The Bulls and Pacers had a big trade. The notable names involved were Jalen Rose and Travis Best (Pacers to Bulls), and Brad Miller and Ron Artest (Bulls to Pacers). Also noteworthy, Rose scored 36 in his Bulls debut. On a side note, Da Bulls are not destined for much this year at least. They need Dit-ka. That #23 guy is playing for someone else.

Another blockbuster trade involved Dallas and Denver. The Denver Nuggets sent Nick Van Exel, Raef LaFrentz, Avery Johnson, and Tariq Abdul-Wahad to Dallas for Juwan Howard, Donnell Harvey, Tim Hardaway, a future draft pick, and $1 million. Dallas adds depth with at least two of those guys. Denver gets a journeyman (Howard), a second-year player (Harvey), and a veteran who has not been too healthy as of late (Hardaway). Van Exel was not happy in Denver, hasn't been for the past month at least. This was what basically triggered the trade. Dallas owner, internet entrepreneur, and Dairy Queen cult icon Mark Cuban saw the chance for the Mavs and took it.

Those were the biggest trades. I do have to mention that rookie and former Razorback Joe Johnson was part of a trade. He moved from Boston to Phoenix. Last night, he had 23 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists in his second game with the Suns. Nice job, Joe! They lost. To whom? The Bulls, for cryin' out loud!

As is well known, Michael Jordan has broken out of retirement to play for the Washington Wizards.

In a related story, a =Poet= has broken out of retirement as well. =Bukowski= aka Pavlov's Cat (Pav, Pavvy, =doggerel=, etc.) will be making his return tonight against Phoenix. Welcome back, Pav! It's been a long time, man.
