香港媒体十一日引述消息人士报导，中共中央对台工作领导小组要求各涉台部门近期加强工作，争取两岸关系在今年底或明年初有重大突破，江泽民则明确指出，要争取在明年恢复两会谈判。
报导指出，中共政治局最近听取中央对台工作领导小组关于对台工作的报告。对台小组指出，近期对台工作仍然要坚持‘一国两制，和平统一’方针和江八点，但要继续对台施加压力，要台湾当局接受‘九二共识’。
江泽民则要求中共各涉台部门加强协调，‘希望两岸关系今冬明春要有重大突破，争取明年恢复两会谈判。’
消息人士指出，‘只要陈水扁政府承认“九二共识”和“一个中国”，北京在两岸关系上将会持一定弹性，并给予台湾当局较大的回旋空间。’
与此同时，中共中央也要求防止台湾借口北京成功申办二00八年奥运会，鼓吹两岸将有七年和平的思维，拖延两岸谈判和返回一中原则。
