This poem was written for a local radio station's poetry challenge. Challenge was to write a song dealing with anything cowboy.

Untamed is the best to describe my heart
it’s made many a man to suddenly depart
A pure ghost within my hallow shell
to take a chance you must ride through hell

No chains nor words could dare divide
this wild beast that beats inside.
Do you want to take a chance - step past the fence
it will only buck a few times in pure defense:

They say that time heals the wounds and tames all lies
but my heart’s grown wilder than the eagle that flies.
It’s tired of games and tired of those endless ploys
To try to break-in my heart, oh you must be a cowboy.

Don’t worry if you’re thrown to the mud once or twice
just stand up again and pray that it’s not thrice.
It’s leery of trust and leery of the spoken word
It’s tempting to say that it lives toward the absurd

For what heart can go this long without a lover’s touch?
A heart whisperer could deliver my soul so much.
Endless days beneath the stars looking into Time
wondering when someone will come to tame this heart of mine.

They say that time heals the wounds and tames all lies
but my heart’s grown wilder than the ivy on her vines.
It’s tired of games and tired of being considered just a toy
To try to break-in my heart.... You’ve gotta be a cowboy.
