I called my cousin on saturday and she complained that the following day she was turning 50. The remark gave me an idea for this poem.

Ah yes, fifty.
Is it nifty?
Fifty is a number we dread
Whether upright or in bed.
When we turn fifty we think: "What will go?"
Will I be using a cane and
walking slow?
To turn fifty is not a crime
But, you're still doing time.
Back to the question of this age
Before we turn to a rage.
Fifty is like a sky so blue
And we know what is true.
Fifty is a time to cheer
For you know you're very legal for beer.
Fifty is a time to pause
Just because.
So don't be blue about fifty to turn
You still have much to learn.
Is fifty nifty?
Gee, I don't know
Cause it's time for me to go.
