Research concluded in my mad uncle's lab,
Mind-augmentation, his project of choice,
He left, as I lingered, cleaning quarters so drab,
Fighting huge headache, so hating each noise.
Discovering pill bottle, thought, "Aspirin, for sure!",
When room started spinning, like bees 'round their hive,
That uncorked vessel, spewing fumes like manure,
I downed uncle's project, SURE'S I'M ALIVE!!
Crept home late that night, feeling throbs in my brain,
Jumped under the covers, one hell of a day,
My sore, pulsing head made sleeping a strain,
If clued on tomorrow, in bed I would stay!
For morning barged in on alarm's droning buzzzzz...
Today was for meeting sweetie's dear mom and dad,
My first introduction, mind feeling like fuzz,
I drove to their town house, so anxious, so glad!
My sweetie just beamed as she brought me to mom,
Who cooed soft, sweet greetings, so smooth to my ear,
Hearing was one thing, but my mind dropped a bomb,
Mom's mental-voice comparing a watermelon to my rear!!
I gasped and I shuddered, recoiling from this,
As sweetie brought others, didn't once hesitate,
A musical "Nice to see you", left the lips of her Sis,
But mental-voice chimed, "WHAT A LOSER!", Just great!
The scene did break down, as I clawed for the door,
While sweetie, my love, went off to fetch dad,
My mad uncle's drug READ THOUGHTS, could't take more,
Dark words, lying hearts,a combination so sad.
I switched that old bottle with aspirin, you see,
A mind-reading tool has no place in this life,
My sweetie, I lost, but between you and me,
The price, far too high: HUMONGOUS IN-LAW STRIFE!!
