Trying to Even the Score
Lenny the fox had been bested
by the ostentatious hare
He was caught in the briers like a fool
while the hare left with nary a care
It was time to even the score
and show that hare a thing or two
If he thought Lenny would forget
well, he’d see what Lenny would do
One sunny afternoon Lenny went
to see his friend, Benji, the bear
He said he needed Benji’s help
to catch an ostentatious hare
Benji listened to the fox’s plan
for catching the hare by surprise
Lenny was going to dress up
like a sweet little Granny in disguise
Each morning the ostentatious hare
walked down the Primrose path
“I know how to catch him”
said Lenny with a cunning laugh
The next morning along came the hare
singing his “Happy Bunny” song
He saw a sweet little Granny walking
never suspecting anything wrong
He stepped aside from the path
to let the sweet little Granny walk by
He smiled a gentle little bunny smile
and then heard sweet Granny begin to cry
“Oh, I have never seen such a kind bunny
before in all my life,” said she
as Lenny, the fox was preparing to
grab the bunny by the bunny knee
Just then, instinct told the ostentatious hare
everything was not as it should be
He saw the tip of a tail under the dress
something before he had failed to see
Who did he see coming down the path
but Lenny’s friend, Benji, the bear
At that moment he could feel
the bristles raise on his bunny tail hair
That was trouble he could smell
sure as the sun comes up at daybreak
This called for some quick thinking
an illness he suddenly began to fake
“A-h-h-h, I’m so sick,” the bunny yelled
“It had to be those blackberries I ate,
Lenny, did you eat any blackberries;
if so, you won’t have long to wait”
“I don’t know if I can make it
down the path to Doc’s house,
Benji, could you carry me please;
I don’t weigh more then a small louse”
“A-h-h-h-h, the pain, the agony”
The rabbit was foaming at the mouth
Lenny was strickened with fear
and began running toward the south
When the ostentatious hare saw
Lenny, the fox had run away
he gave Benji, the bear a pat
and in perfect health hopped away
Benji, the bear was scratching his head
wondering what had happned there
It was too much to be figured out
when a nap was in order for the bear
There is a moral to this story
If you don't want the short end of a stick
Then listen closely my friend
You can’t catch a trickster with a trick
