With hands at my side, I breathed in the dank air,
Yardwork was over, no light left to spare...
Time to go in? Why stand here transfixed?
Though body was weary, feet willed me to stick.
Birds chattered their gossip, as sun disappeared,
Backlighted, dark shadows, a scene truly weird...
Forms flitting and flashing, with traces of pink,
God's paintbrush highlighting, as Sol tries to sink.
Now gray forms of cotton danced so high above,
I studied weird faces, a fox and a dove...
All turning and twisting, unleashed by the breeze,
With rose-colored halos, bringing artists to their knees.
The sigh of the wind, perfumed with wet grass,
Rose to a rustle, a storm's walking past...
Bellies of clouds, now strobed with white fire,
While openings framed stars, my eyes did not tire!
Thor's hammer was rumbling, spooking cusp of the moon,
Damp breeze spitting raindrops, meant I'm leaving soon...
Behind me, with fur whipping over deep-seeing eyes,
My cat watching with me, that show in the sky.
I'm finally pulled from the arms of that scene,
Crossing home's threshold, my break not so clean...
To my own world so busy, so crammed full of laws,
My dreams will return me, to that magnificant pause.
