When imbued with youth, we were exceedingly blind
Enticed and seduced by iniquities of the world.
Besieged by wicked teachers vying to warp the mind
Into the grave our innocence and dreams were hurled.
We believed adulthood was a distant enchantment
A future illusion of freedom with no rules.
Not wise that self-lies are an entrapment
Designed to decimate our dream-making tools.
We learned to amass germane information
To exploit and maneuver towards a life that’s deceiving.
Coveting that prosperous and glamorous transformation
Oh woe! to the lies we settled on believing.
We blindly blamed others for stealing our thunder
Not intuiting the truth always existed within.
We’ve lived out our lies without bothering to ponder
And we never went back to where all dreams begin.
The years pass and die and we suffer our lowest hour
As regret gnaws and chews and grinds our self-esteem.
We sadly discover we sacrificed personal power
When we became the executioner of our dreams.
