Sitting by the wall, so near the window sill
sits a family 'round the table sure to get their fill.
But what they don't discover peering through the windowpane
there stands a small boy, his belly to feel no gain.

The family complains of eating too much; annoyed the rolls were overdone.
The little boy contemplates the empty roads of his misfortune.
Smiling, they throw away peas and scraps of meat so they can do the dishes.
Sobbing, the little boy presses his face against the glass wondering if God could hear his wishes.

As the family raises their glasses and toasts their salvation,
the little boy drifts into the cold, and dies from starvation.
