so genannte kalte Fusion von Wasserstoff und Nickel statt[2], was bei starker Wärmebildung zur Bildung von Kupfer führe. An den von Rossi vorgeführten Demonstrationen im Jahre 2011 wurde von mehreren Seiten Kritik geäußert. Es konnte weder Gamma- noch Neutronenstrahlung nachgewiesen werden[3], noch gibt es einen Beleg für die Bildung von nicht-natürlichen Isotopenverhältnissen in den angeblichen Reaktionsprodukten. Die jeweiligen Experimente, die eine Energiefreisetzung durch "kalte" Kernfusion belegen sollen, litten bislang an erheblichen methodischen Schwächen und offenbarten widersprüchliche Angaben. Untersuchungen, die einen Beleg für einen Fusionsprozess nach dem gemeinten Prinzip von unabhängiger Seite liefern könnten, scheiterten in der Vergangenheit. Fachliteratur liegt zum "Energiekatalysator" nicht vor (Stand Mai 2011).
