I think it is apparant to the world that we are, in fact in the middle of a precarious and horrifying situation. The death toll is too large to believe, and while we would rather not think about it, I'm glad that we aren't being kept in the dark either. Try not to pay attention to speculation there is too much of that flying around.. remember the thing that is imortant here, is fact. It's odd the way some people deal with these things. It's aggravating the way that some people talk about it as if it were some sort of joke, and I will admit that on some degree I am guilty of joking, but certainly only to lighten a rather gloomy mood that is entitled to being here following such horrific events. Sometimes it is difficult to face reality, but when it is staring you in the face regardless of which television channel you turn to, or which individual you speak to, there is no dodging it anymore.. thats probably why it's been so difficult for a lot of us.. or for me at least. There was a story about a woman who was corresponding through e-mail to her hunsband in the 2nd twin tower just after the first one had been hit.. they thought it had just been a terrible error. The husband was telling her he was fine when the e-mails stopped. She looked out her window to see the second building crashing to the ground. We are going to hear so many more upsetting stories like this one as the days go on, and while I am not a religious person, I hope that we can all find it in our hearts to pray for families and friends who have lost loved ones. And to those in this game who have, there is no way that I can fully comprehend what a terrible feeling that is, but my heart goes out to you, and you have all my love and best wishes. Todayw as the first day this school year, that my entire 1st period class said the pledge of allegiance, and is was, indeed rather eerie. Remember too though, that rather than simply moping around, we can all try to do something to help, though of course it cannot be remedied. My Psychology class in school is organizing a fund raiser for the families of safety officers and fire control officers that lost their lives during the tragic events of yesterday.. it started out as an idea on the internet, but in our school alone, if each person brought $10 in, we could raise around $11,000 for these people, and while most of us, myself included, are too young to give blood, there is always something else, even if it is burning a candle on your front stoop, or in your window like I did last night. If anyone needs an ear, or even just another friend, please don't hesitate to let me know, I'll do all I can. My e-mail is ccm_2003@yahoo.com and you are all more than welcome to contact me at any time.
All my love,
Chelsea
