Subject: Justice For Hal Please Help

Please help this TN. Indian man finally see some real justice!
Contact attorney John H. Norton at 931-684-4824 or at nortonlawfirmpc@bellsouth.net and ask why after suffering more than 20 years of vindictive abuse should this disabled Indian man be forced to accept this unreasonable deal when there is no real evidence against him and the charges aren't even legal.
These people need to know that this situation is being watched and that Hal has the support of the Native American community.
See Hal's story at: www.justiceforhal.com and read the
timeline below:

The Abuse

1986: Undercover probe into illegal bingo operations is launched. Hal Adams and his family inform FBI agents of local illegal activity and agree to help them compile more proof.

1987: Local Tullahoma bingo hall is forced to close only to be re-opened a short time later after purchasing another fraudulent permit from the TN. Secretary of State.
This story was covered by Phil Williams with the Tennessean and was published on the front page Sunday edition complete with a photo of the bingo hall.
During this time, charges are brought against Hal Adams by the owner of the local bingo operation claiming harassment. Hal was sentenced to three years in jail for three phone calls made to this individual.
These convictions were overturned upon appeal.

During the appeal process, a confidential medical file became public knowledge to some of those involved in the case.
Personal comments made by Hal Adams to his physician, were used to press further charges of “Intimidation of judicial officers” He was then again arrested by Tullahoma police and the TBI.
This charge was also dismissed but not before Hal was forced to spend 9 days in jail.
During this time, his father was in Vanderbilt Hospital suffering from terminal cancer.
Within a few days after the arrest, Hal’s father passed away without a final visit from his only son. Requests to the local sheriff to facilitate this visit, fell on deaf ears.

1988: A local attorney who was also a family friend advised that “for his own safety and to avoid further harassment, Hal needs to leave Coffee County”.

Spring 1989: After settling his affairs in TN. Hal heeds advice to leave and headed to Iowa to begin a new life.

Sept. 1989: After settling in Iowa and starting a new job, unfortunately, Hal contracted Meningitis and due to the effects of the illness, began suffering from seizures.

Jan. 1990: Hal has no other alternative but to return to TN. To seek medical attention and be where his family could care for him.
Unfortunately, as soon as it was public knowledge that he had returned, the harassment also returned.
There was interference in the custody case of Hal’s child, illegal traffic stops, threats and outright stalking by certain locals (all documented). Although space here does not permit us to list each and every episode, this was a constant which continued on for some 5 or more years.

Dec. 1997: Hal has frontal lobe brain surgery to correct his seizures. The surgery is successful but not without some negative side effects such as effecting his ability to reason.
He also has a heart condition and suffers from dangerously high blood pressure.

1998: In an unrelated incident, when Hal’s life is threatened by an armed man, he went to file charges and the local prosecutor (Shelton) refused to press charges. Hal contacted the state attorney General and was told that it was completely illegal for Shelton to refuse to prosecute, but in a blatant case of prejudice he did.

1999: Hall attended technical school first in Murfreesboro and then in Shelbyville and obtain his certification in computer repair and technology and was really doing well for himself.

During this time, there was a pending Civil Rights suit in which the family was seeking justice for the previous cases of Hal’s illegal imprisonment. The suit was held up by red tape, allowed for time to run out and was then immediately dropped by the courts.

Aug. 10th, 2000: The next day after the Civil Suit was dropped, cops illegally entered Hal’s home saying that there was a call of domestic disturbance. He refused to go with them so they drug him outside, shackled him, cussed him, abused him, and threw him into the back of a police car with the windows up and with no air conditioning this in the month of August. When he begged for air, what did they do but mace him. His family was there and kept trying to tell the police that he had a medical condition and extremely high blood pressure and can’t be treated like that. Hal couldn’t breath, began to panic and finally managed to kick out a window.
With so much illegal activity involved with this case including (by his own testimony) perjury by one of the officers, this too was all thrown out with the exception of destruction of private property for the patrol car window.
During this case, Hal’s attorney ended up dead from an apparent heart attack.

As soon as the appeals court decision was upheld for illegal entry among other things, the Tullahoma police were back out at Hal’s home threatening and harassing.
As in past years, this activity continued eventually resulting in a mental break down.

Feb. 6 2006: While exiting a store several miles from his home, police approach Hal and place him under arrest for possession of cocaine and intent to manufacture meth amphetamine. When the arrest warrant finally materialized, it was dated Feb. 6th, 2006 while the affidavit to obtain the warrant was dated, Feb. 7th, 2006. The warrant also states that Hal was arrested at his home when in fact, he was arrested miles away.
The arresting officer said that he had found Hal to be in possession of cocaine during a traffic stop. He later recanted this statement.

After being arrested and while downtown being processed, police then searched (ransacked) Hal’s home. There, they claim to have found three components to justify the arrest:
#1. In the garage, an empty (in the indictment, the word empty was changed to “can of”) can of break cleaner. Anyone who knows Hal will tell you that he was always tinkering with old cars and even did some minor repairs for friends.

Note: According to a local auto parts store manager, in order to cook the smallest amount of meth, it would take at least two to three cans.

#2. On the porch, along with a family member’s camping equipment, a half empty can of Coleman fuel.

#3. Inside the house, a “supposed” separated cold capsule containing psudophedrine.

No smell, no actual meth, no anything else.

As for the cocaine, it was supposedly found in the underwear of a woman at the house who as far as anyone knows has not since been seen or even charged with anything.
Of course with this cocaine being found in the underwear of this mystery woman naturally it had to be Hal’s so he was charged with possession of cocaine.
Also, keep in mind that Hal wasn’t even at the house at the time. He was downtown being booked on these charges.

Currently: After spending almost 2 years in the Coffee County Jail, Hal is free on bond.
He has finally been assigned an attorney who first told him that much of this could be thrown out and that one of the charges was for something that wasn’t even a law at that time but is now attempting to encourage him to accept a totally unreasonable deal of time served with 6 YEARS probation or the possibility of 12 years imprisonment if he goes to trial.
Coercion? Intimidation from others? You decide.
With such a history though, it does makes one wonder that if he accepts this length of probation, just how long it will be before he is framed on some other trumped up charge.
