Many of you have made some good and valid points here, and I would just like to add that this site and other's like it can only but help with any racist attitudes. Again I use the word 'UNDERSTANDING' as i believe we have a world wide famine of understanding going on! I have come accross many American Indian peoples who have cut me dead in conversation because I am non Indian, and have also encountered many non Indian people who ignorance and arrogance towards the American Indian is appauling! It cuts both ways, sometimes we have to give a little to recieve a little, and in my opionion it costa nothing to be 'nice' We should all learn to understand a little more about one another as 'individuals'.... not all non Indian people are like the barbarians in the days of our Ancestors, and many of our family lines have no connection (thank goodness!) My Ancestors left India (Punjab and Rajasthan)1000 years ago because of persecution and have been persecuted ever since. I am Romani and many of my people were alongside the Jews in Hitler's concentration camps, and it is a fact that Hitler believed Romani's to be worse than he considered Jews.. but it is not my people who are heard or even mentioned within the history, there are no memorials for my people or even acknowledgement of their horrors! Yet when I spoke to an American Indian about chilodren's art (as we are both professional artists) she blanked me because I am non 'American' Indian!
