Subject: Medicine Bags

Hello everyone! Lately this site has been a bit dry on new subjects and so I thought I would take this opportunity to try to stimulate some conversation on a new subject.

I have been fighting a very long injury and recently was hospitalized after some intensive surgery. While I was recovering, a special friend gifted me with a medicine bag made especially for me. It is a gift that I will treasure always for many reasons but mostly because of the work, prayers and thought that went into its creation.

I have learned a little bit about the use of medicine bags from other friends but each native culture has their own rules and taboo's on how they should be cared for. I know that some believe that nobody should touch another persons medicine bag for example.

My purpose is not to ask anyone to describe how to make one or what goes into one. Instead I would like to know if anyone has any stories about how they came to be used. Also would love to hear about the differant ways to care for them and any taboo's associated with their care!

I hope this stimulates some interesting conversation and look forward to hearing from others on this subject!
