I got in a fight with my now exboyfriend because he told me he was going to take a job that required him to go to another country and it meant that we wouldnt be able to be together for a year. I asked him if he was gonna take it and he said it was up to his family, that they were considering it for him. I told him that he can't let them make decisions like that for him, that he said I come first and that his actions are saying that his family's opinions come first. That he can't leave me for a year and expect me to be ok with that. He told me that, being Native American, you listen to your elders while you are still a child, which for his isnt until he is 24. That basically he can't make decisions until he is 24 and if they want him to do something, he has no choice but to do it. That he is a traditionalist. I told him that he needs to make decions for us because to me, if he cant do that then he isnt man enough. I believe that once he made a commitment to me, he could no longer be babied like he is... he ended up going against their wishes, however it is also his wish to go now and he told me to shove off. Said things like, I didnt understand him. What I want is to see what another Native American has to say about this. So plz, if you Native American and are reading this, plz tell me what you think. I have heard alot of opinions siding with me, heck, I even asked some ppl in some chat rooms about it from his point of view. as if I was him, and they still agreed with my point of view. So plz help me out here... thanks!
