This is called "binding" the spell and is critical with all verbal or written spells. (in visualization you visualize the binding) because words of power are very very specific. One needs to think them through from every possible angle. You don't want to have some loved one die and leave you insurance $$!!!! Binding the spell everytime gives you the insurance that if you didn't think of a possible interpretation that you are still safe and 'covered' that there can be no harm done by the spells work.
