Sorry I haven't been around much!

So far we have all stayed healthy, here at our house. My daughter even got to get a flu shot last week since she has asthma. I have gotten a flu shot eveny year for over a decade so I was really concerned when the shortage was announced. I started making the broth this week and have been drinking it every day. The biggest thing about using this though, is to detox your system and flood it with essential nutrients at the same time. It is basically a cleansing thing and won't be effective if you are also eating white flour and sugar products at the same time. (not sure how that would coincide with J's remedy....maybe a small spoonful of honey instead of the sugar cube...though not much better).

What you do is take your biggest pot and cut up (big peices is fine) scrubbed but unpeeled potatoes, carrots, onion and celery (other options to add are turnips and parsnips). You can add other things like a tiny bit of beet but some things just taste awful in it, broccolli for example, and I love broccolli. Then you simmer till you have a good broth and veggies have given their all. then pour off the broth and refridgerate. You can eat the veggies if you wanted but they are pretty much done and void of nutients....it is all in the broth now. I usually dump the veggies and stick with the broth...that is the magick. I would drink a couple of big mug-fuls every day as a preventitive and if you get sick just drink it non-stop for 3 days (and little else) and you will knock the flu out of you. You will also lose at least 6 lbs,(once when I was sick with a fever and drinking nothing but this and herbal tea for 3 days and in bed I lost 11 lbs.) but it will come right back if you don't eat carefully afterwards of course. (Obviously it is not the thing to do for weightloss is you have to be up and about and having energy, etc!)

Other things I do are to use echinachea, occillicoscium, echinachea tea, EATING citrus/high vit C fruits (if you are drinking the juice it has to be just squeezed or there is not vit C left in it), and taking extra Vit C. As for echinachea if you take it all the time it will not be as effective in cold in flu season. Only start taking it when the bugs get rampant or you have been exposed or are starting to get sick.

And of course, WASH YOUR HANDS!! Yes, yes, yes, that is Mamma dreemy's mantra and my whole family are sick of hearing it. try to avoid touching things in public...handrails, doorknobs, buttons, etc. and when you have to, then keep you hands away from your face until you can wash them. Shopping carts are just the worst! Keep a pack of tissues in your coat pocket and touch things with the tissues....you will look like a neurotic but you will keep free of bugs. Also try to wash you hands the minute you enter your house so you won't spread the germs from the outside world all over your home.

For those of us in the states, if you overindulged during the Thanksgiving holiday, then try to cut back on the starches and sugars, eat more fruits and veggies and trans-fat free fats, etc.....and drink water like crazy. It will give your immune system a fighting chance.

hugs!
Dreemy
